The Corporation for National and Community Service will host conference calls beginning tomorrow to get input about the implementation of the Serve America Act.
The new era of service and volunteering officially begins October 1, when the Serve America Act goes into effect. As that date approaches, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNS), the agency charged in the act with both expanding existing programs and creating several new programs and initiatives to increase service opportunities and strengthen our civic infrastructure, will host a series of (6) public forums to get input from the public about how to implement the new legislation.
This is an opportunity for you—national service providers, partners, grantees, service members, alumni, non-profits and other stakeholders to contribute your ideas, share your knowledge and experiences and have your say about how this new legislation is implemented.
A mutually beneficial exchange, it’s also an opportunity for CNS to simultaneously engage all Americans, both the benefactors and beneficiaries of service, and draw from the wealth of ideas presented by each side, as it works to implement the new legislation and as CNS develops its new 5 year strategic plan.
The Serve America Act charges the Corporation for National and Community Service and its partners to:
- dramatically expand opportunities for Americans to serve
- focus on critical national issues
- be a catalyst for social innovation
- support the nonprofit sector
To that end, CNS is sponsoring a number of opportunities for public input over the next month, including listening sessions around the country, conference calls, and a web page for submitting your written comments.
