More Peace Corps is looking more likely.
This afternoon, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) announced on RPCV Chris Matthew’s show Hardball that the proposed Peace Corps budget would increase to $450 million (over $340 million, last year) that would help expand Peace Corps’s presence to 20 additional countries.
Congress will vote next week. Lowey chairs the Appropriations Committee.

Great news. My experience as a volunteer was life changing. These really are a dedicated group of individuals willing to sacrifice a lot to help others. They gain alot too. I still meet immigrants in the US who have had a positive experience with the Peace Corps in their home country. Keep up the great work.
Currently I am serving as a third year volunteer. This news is fantastic! It is great to know that even with the financial stresses happening worldwide that others still agree that providing and continuing to fund volunteer programs such as Peace Corps is beneficial. The work and experiences we have with host country nationals and other PCVs is mutually beneficial and helps each of us to learn more about other cultures and ourselves.
